Camping with your Dog

If you’re hoping to include your dog on camping excursions this summer, here are some tips to make sure you’re prepared so you can both have the best time.

  • Check with your vet to make sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations and discuss flea and tick prevention options. Make sure your dog has a collar with id on it, or consider getting your pet microchipped.
  • Make a list so you don’t forget to pack any of the essentials: Dog food and bowl, water bowl, leash, collar, outdoor toys, treats, bed,  lifejacket, First Aid kit, medication, stake and tether, waste bags. Don’t have a pet First Aid kit? Check out our selection here.
  • Take a picture of your dog in case he goes missing and you need to show people what he looks like.
  • Stay hydrated, beware of overheating and protect your dog’s paws.
  • Pick the right tent size so there’s enough room for humans and pets
  • Check campground regulations to make sure pets are allowed, and to learn the leash policies and barking ordinances
  • Watch for allergies. In a new environment, your dog may react to new plants or pollens.
  • Never leave your pet unattended, plus watch for wildlife and keep your dog secure at all times

Here’s to a great summer with your best friend!
